SAVE YOUR TREES FROM THE EMERALD ASH BORER
Emerald Ash Borers are relatively new on the pest control radar, but their wake of devastation is pretty vast. Since first being identified in 2002, their species has managed to destroy millions of Ash Trees! Their life cycle starts by the females lying eggs under the bark and crevices of the trees and branches. Within the week, they hatch and almost immediately bore into the tree and begin feeding, and this ultimately leads to the destructions of the host Ash tree.
Recognized by government and environmental agencies, Emerald Ash Borer infestations should be treated and prevented from spreading and causing additional damage. Endless information and resources are available in areas that are prone to the infestation, and commonly recommended products can be purchased for home treatment methods. Some places in the US and Canada request that EAB infestations are reported, and may even offer resources and assistance in treatment.
Emerald Ash Borer infestations can have similar telltale signs of other common diseases, and should be carefully identified to ensure proper treatment courses are implemented. If bark is splitting, or sudden irregular growth is occurring, these may be signs of EAB populations. Sudden woodpecker populations may also be an indicator, as they feed on the EAB larvae in trees.
Systemic insecticides, such as Safari, are among the recommended products for use in treatment against Emerald Ash Borer infestations. Systemic insecticides work by traveling through the plant itself, and infecting the pest that is feeding on all or parts of the plant.
