HOW TO NOT TO GET BED BUGS

Hotels are prime location for coming home with a bedbug infestations. For travelers that is a real problem. People come to a hotel or motel, and they take bed bugs back home with them. So how does one travel and not get bed bugs? Here are a few tips:

  1. Use a Luggage Stand: Never put your luggage on the floor. Most hotels and motels have luggage stands. Those are those folding contraptions that you will find in the closet. If you do not have enough of them for your luggage ask for more. They unfold and your suite case it’s nicely on top of them and off of the floor. If you put your luggage on the floor, the bed bugs will use it as a place to hide. Boom, you have them. Never put your clothes on the floor, including your shoes.
  2. Soiled or Clean: Either carry a second suite case for dirty clothes or carry garbage bags in which to put all of your dirty clothes. Don’t mix your clean clothes with your dirty clothes. If you mix your clean and dirty clothes, you will transport bed bugs or bed bug eggs back home with you. Keep them separate. When you get home, immediately wash all of the close in the garbage bags or “dirty” suite case. If you have several bags to wash, store them in the bathtub until while they queue up for the washer. Immediately throw out the used garbage bags in the outside trash receptacle.

If you are a constant traveler than carry a few luggage sprays may be worth the investment so that you can spray your luggage after moving from one location to the next. We offer a few options for products that will meant the travelers needs when it comes to bed bug control.

How to check if your hotel has bed bugs

Bed bugs eat blood from warm blooded creatures such as humans. In a hotel setting that means you are their snack. To check to see if the bed you are about to sleep on has bed bugs you can peel back the sheet and mattress pad and look. If you see small dark flakes then, you are staying in a hotel that has bed bugs. If you look carefully in cracks and creases of the mattress, you may find live bed bugs. They are about the size of a grain of rice and are often a reddish brown color. The dark flakes you see on the mattress is digested blood or bed bug poop.
