The Tick is a blood sucking parasite that can be identified by its brownish color and a body that has two clearly separated sections. Ticks are also a member of the arachnid family, and have eight legs, same as their spider relatives. Ticks pose a threat to humans, as they can cause significant skin issues and transmit disease. Many ticks can be infected with multiple diseases, leading to a bitten individual being infected with more than one, and making it difficult to diagnose and treat. Ticks are commonly found in yards, kennels, and in homes, as their most common residential host is the pet dog.
Tick infestations occur in areas with warm temperatures, and high humidity. Ticks can go through the entire life cycle while living indoors, but humidity levels need to be high enough to ensure they do not dehydrate. They can reproduce rapidly into a huge problem and double in size when engorged after feeding.
