Over 37,000 species of spiders exist worldwide. All spiders are poisonous, though humans are not afflicted by all spiders, each spider is poisonous to its intended prey. Spiders inject venom and or digestive juices into live or recently-killed prey in order to feed. As a whole, spiders do not pose dangers to humans and are simply a feared nuisance.
Contrary to popular belief, not all spiders are in the web business. Some are active hunters and others passive hunters. Identifying spider types that are of concern, in your home or office, can assist in proper management and eliminating spider issues. Active hunters are less likely to reside indoors, as food sources are limited. If actively hunting spiders are inside, a secondary pest problem may exist that is driving their hunting.
