How To Use Snap Traps For Rat Control
When to use snap traps for rat control: when the smell of decomposing may not be acceptable, where rodenticides are unwarranted or may pose an hazard.
As with all your rat control techniques location, location, location is always the key to successful trapping.
The trigger of a set trap should be parallel to the body of a trap when in its most sensitive position.
Traps should be placed, but left unset and baited for a couple of days prior to setting the traps.
More rats are caught the first night than any other night so using large numbers of distributed traps will help with high success rat.
When a hole is present that the rat is using, placing traps in a semi-circle is recommended 2 to 3 ft from opening.
Unbaited traps used in a rats run should be placed on floors, shelves or other wide surfaces, place them 1 to 2 inches away from the surface with opening pointing in that direction.
The key to success in using snap traps is also to use many traps. For a couple of rodents in a structure 12 or more traps are recommended.
