Merit 0.5 G insecticide attacks the nervous system in insects and prevents normal transmission of nerve impulses. This mode of action results in disruption of normal behavior; treated insects stop feeding, do not reproduce and eventually die. Merit 0.5 G insecticide is most effective when applied prior to, or just after, egg lay. In most cases, adult emergence occurs in early summer, often after significant rainfall or irrigation, followed by mating and egg laying. This usually continues for four to six weeks. Under normal circumstances, Merit 0.5 G insecticide will provide residual white grub control for four months or longer in turf.

Target Pests: Grubs, Chinch Bugs, and other small turfgrass pests. See complete list on product label.

High levels of control can be achieved when applications are made preceding or during the egg laying period. the need for and application can be based on historical monitoring of the site previous records or experiences, current season adult trapping or other methods. Optimum control will be achieved when applications are made prior to egg hatch of the target pest, followed by sufficient irrigation or rainfall to move the active ingredient thought the thatch. Applications should not be made when turfgrass areas are waterlogged or the soil is saturated with water. Adequate distributions of the active ingredient cannot be achieved when these conditions exist. The treated turf must be in such a condition that the rainfall or irrigation will penetrate veritcally int he soil profile. Applications cannot exceed a total of 80lbs (0.4lb of active ingredient ) per acre per year.

Imidacloprid is a systemic insecticide which acts as an insect neurotoxin and belongs to a class of chemicals called the neonicotinoids which act on the central nervous system of insects with much lower toxicity to mammals.

The chemical works by interfering with the transmission of stimuli in the insect nervous system.

Specifically, it causes a blockage in the nicotinergic neuronal pathway. This blockage leads to the accumulation of acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter, resulting in the insect's paralysis, and eventually death.

Imidacloprid is effective on contact and via stomach action. Because imidacloprid binds much more strongly to insect neuron receptors than to mammal neuron receptors, this insecticide is selectively more toxic to insects than mammals.
