Spider Control in a Basement

Question:

Hoping you can lead me in the right direction. Couple of things. I’m having a problem with spiders in my basement. I live in a house thats 30yrs old in the country. Not awhole lot of cracks or crevices for pests to get in. I would like a product that I can apply around the base of my house. I have a few issues that I am concerned about. I have 2 small dogs, outside cat and a waterfall close to the house with fish and frogs in it. I obviously do not want to harm any of the mentioned animals. What could I use to get rid of the spiders? I also have found a few wolf spiders (this concerns me) I also have a large beehive forming on the over hang of my house. What can I do about this? Any help would be appreciated!

Answer:

The bee hive, unless you have a beesuit is best to call a professional for removal they can be very aggressive when attacked.

Professional Beesuit

For spiders you will want to look at Cy-kick or Tempo SC, both concentrates that can be applied to the baseboards of the basement, Glueboards are a great control and monitoring item, when place in areas.  catchmaster 72 MB’s, inexpensize and highly effective.  Keep the pets and humans out of area until completely dry.

You can spray the outside of the house with either of these products, create a 3 foot band up and out from the structure, I would avoid the areas where you have the water fall with fish and frogs as these can be toxic.  But treating the other 3 sides will help cut down the spider presence.  Treat all entry points, weep holes, door frames, windows etc.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.  I am posting your question and answer on our blog so you can get links to all the products discussed.
