Mosquito Control Pre-season Thinking
In most areas mosquitoes aren’t yet an issue, but we can see from our customers emails and phone calls that it is on our minds.
Mosquito Misting Systems:
For those of us who are lucky enough to have a mosquito misting system it might be time to start preparing your unit to help keep you mosquito free. If you have flushed your system for the winter, running a test run is a good place to start. Check for leaking nozzles, cracked tubing and any risers that maybe have been damaged over the winter. We now carry every replacement part available for the MistAway mosquito misting systems for all models Gen 1.2, 1.3 and III.
Maybe you want to also upgrade or expand your unit, now is the time to start thinking about and getting your supplies. One beautiful Saturday and you can be on your way to being mosquito free.
Hydro-Py 300 is still not available because of the pyrethrin shortage so our next recommendations are Riptide, Sector and EcoExempt Misting formulation. There is some cost difference for each. Riptide is a natural Pyrethrin, Sector being Synthetic and Eco product are made of natural killing and repelling oils. We have customers who have used the Eco products since they installed their unit and still are using them so it must be working. If you want to go green the EcoExempt will be the product you will want to choice.
Mosquito Foggers:
Another option for mosquito control is getting your own personal mosquito fogger, southern neighborhoods probably hear the humming of professional units in the back of trucks every couple of days during the summer months. Unfortunately, for most the chemical in the front knocks the mosquito population down but stills leaves enough blood suckers in the back yard. We sell small hand held units that are electric and produce a very fine mist/fog with the insecticide. The Cyclone, hurricane or Tornado by Curtis Dyna-fog are great choices and can be purchased for around $200.00, add $50.00 worth of chemical it can pay for itself in savings from “Off in one year.
Clear away breeding grounds:
Now is the time you also want to start looking hard at where they are breeding in your backyard, bird baths, empty pots, trays, just about anything that holds water can and will allow mosquitoes to breed. In the event you have areas that are stagnant water sources that cannot be drained, like ditches or small ponds, using a larvicide is worth the minimal cost. Mosquito Dunks, Bactimos Briquets are placed in the water source, eaten by the mosquito larvae and then cannot mature. Problem solved.
Planning on having an outdoor event and need to be mosquito free, mosquito beater, a mosquito repellent might be all you need. The granules are placed out earlier in the day, before the event. Mosquito Beater really works and will keep you bug free for 1 day.
