Glyphosate Herbicides

Glyphosate Products for Weed Elimination

Recognized and credited as one of the most common, widely used products for weed control in the US, Glyphosate is an ingredient in many commonly used products as a household and commercial weed killer. Products with this active ingredient are designed to be sprayed directly on weeds in driveways, on sidewalks and in decorative landscape plant beds, in addition to use in crops, lawns and gardens. Glyphosate breaks down over time, but the results do not travel to neighboring plants and therefor do not cause unintended damage.

Glyphosate is sprayed onto weeds and penetrates the leaf surface quickly, with leaves yellowing in less that a week. The herbicide is absorbed and travels to the root, killing the entire weed by preventing it from sustaining by being able to make its own food by gathering nutrients. Weeds do not regrow, and once in the soil Glyphosate degrades into natural components with no residual effects. This also means that plants and flowers can be planted in previously treated areas, and they will not suffer any ill effects from the prior use of an herbicide.

RoundUp, Ranger Pro and Strike Out all contain Glyphosate as the active ingredient. As a post-emergent, systemic product, Glyphosate cannot be used to treat weeds before their growth actually occurs. The nature of the product is to use the existing weed as a mode of transport, and therefore it is not effective as a pre-emergent herbicide. A pre-emergent herbicide functions by preventing a weed from germinating in the first place.
