Best Practices When Using Bedlam® Bed Bug Spray

Test the surface first. Bedlam will not stain water-safe fabrics and surfaces. To make sure a surface is water-safe, spray in an inconspicuous area to test for possible staining or discoloration. Check after spray has dried; if staining has not occurred, proceed to spray area to be treated.

Application tips

Shake well before each use. Vacate room after treatment and ventilate before reoccupying. Spray only those garments, parts of bedding, including mattresses and furniture that cannot be either laundered or dry-cleaned. Allow sprayed articles and surfaces to dry thoroughly before using or replacing bedding. Do not allow children or pets to contact treated areas until surface is dry. Use Bedlam as part of an IPM program for Bed Bug Control. Use Bedlam in conjunction with other products labeled for the control of bed bugs such as Onslaught® Microencapsulated Insecticide for a comprehensive bed bug program.

Effective Bed Bug Application

For best results, in addition to treatment with Bedlam Insecticide, pest control professionals should include additional tactics such as those listed below.

• Conduct a thorough inspection to locate the infestation
• Be certain to look in any harborages that offer the bed bug isolation and darkness, such as:
  • Behind wall hangings, pictures and mirrors
  • Behind electrical switch plates
  • In electronics such as radios and alarm clocks
  • Under rugs and floor coverings In all nooks and crannies of nightstands
  • All parts of beds – headboards, footboards, mattress, box springs, frame
• Remove and wash all bedding. Allow surfaces to dry thoroughly before using or replacing bedding
• Reduce and remove clutter from the room
• Dispose of infested items that can be discarded
• Encase or bag articles that may be infested, but will not be laundered or discarded
• Remove bedding, clothing and other items that may be laundered or dry cleaned
• Wash and dry on “high heat” dryer setting to achieve a temperature of 185°F

Things to consider in your bed bug treatment

• Inspect, Inspect, Inspect
• Listen to occupants and carefully inspect the entire infestation area with a flashlight, to identify all pockets of infestation. Bed bugs have been found in uncommon places such as smoke detectors, books, electronic equipment, etc.

Develop a Treatment Plan

• Communicate the plan and expectations to the occupants. Always prioritize safety. Bed bug treatment usually requires more than one technician and often requires multiple visits.
• Reduce Clutter
• Remove all items from floor, underside of bed, and closet floors. Inspect, treat or carefully dispose of all infested items.
• Vacuum Thoroughly
• Vacuum all visible bed bugs. Move furniture 2-3 feet from wall. Vacuum carpet throughout room, beneath furniture and in closets. Add insecticide dust to vacuum bag before disposing.
• Treat Along Carpet Edges
• Pull back carpet from the baseboard and dust or broadcast spray with an appropriate insecticide.
• Cracks & Crevices; Wall Voids:
  • Treat all cracks and crevices, wall and furniture voids, behind picture frames, behind the bed headboard and all carpeted surfaces.
• Spray Mattresses
• Broadcast spray mattress and box spring with alcohol-free, water-based insecticide approved for this use. Encase treated mattresses and box springs after drying.
• Wash & Dry on High Heat
• Launder all bed sheeting and clothing on high heat. Place items that cannot be laundered in dryer on high heat.
