    General Information Accord Concentrate Herbicide

  • EPA registered for direct application over wetland areas! Water soluble liquid mixes readily with water and nonionic surfactant. Used for site preparation and release of loblolly pine trees.
  • Also used as a foliage spray for control or destruction of a variety of annual weeds, perennial weeds and woody brush or trees. Herbicide moves through plant from point of contact with foliage into the root system.
  • Visible effects usually appear within two to four days. Susceptible species include sweetgum, blackgum, red oak, white oak, dogwood, water oak, loblolly pine, and panic grass.
  • When used 45-60 days before a controlled burn, it can enhance the burn by providing ample fuel.
  • For best results, vegetation should be in full leaf and growing before applying herbicide. Active ingredient is 53.8% isopropylamine salt of glyphosate

The Accord Family of herbicides is part of the Dow AgroSciences LLC portfolio of forestry products. Accord SP and Accord Concentrate herbicides are registered for the broad-spectrum control of a wide variety of undesirable woody, broadleaf and grass species on forestry sites across the United States. These vegetation management tools are formulated to meet the special needs of professional foresters.

The active ingredient in Accord herbicides, glyphosate, is one of the most widely used in the world. It is registered for use by farmers, homeowners, and industrial vegetation managers and is sold in more than 130 countries worldwide.

    Product Characteristics

Accord SP and Accord Concentrate are post emergent products that are most often applied to the foliage of target vegetation. Glyphosate is harmless to most plants once in the soil because it is quickly adsorbed to soil particles, and even when free, it is not readily absorbed by plant roots.

Accord SP is formulated specifically for site preparation. It contains surfactant technology designed to optimize performance on tough species. Accord Concentrate is formulated with flexibility in mind and does not contain a surfactant. It is suited for conifer release or where custom mixing of herbicide products is desired. It is registered for use in and around water on forested sites.

Glyphosate is formulated as a water-soluble salt to meet a wide variety of weed control needs. It was developed by Monsanto Company in the early 1970s. In 2001, Dow AgroSciences licensed the trademarks for Accord herbicide products. This herbicide cannot be sold in MA, NJ, NY, VT, WA, CA. High-Volume/Low-Volume Foliar

    High-volume foliar

    Low-volume foliar

    High-volume foliar:

  • Treats the target brush with total spray solution volumes between 100 and 400 gallons per acre. See the product labels for specific rates.
  • Densities higher than 1,500 stems per acre.
  • Heights greater than 6 to 8 feet.
  • For reclamation efforts in large areas.

    Low-volume foliar:

  • Treats the target brush with total spray solution volumes between 5 and 30 gallons per acre. See the product labels for specific rates.
  • Used to keep shrubs and saplings from repopulating an area after an initial reclamation or to enhance a well-maintained site that contains low stem densities and low average stem heights.
  • Densities less than 500 stems per acre.
  • Heights less than 6 to 8 feet.
  • This close-range treatment helps minimize drift.
  • Coverage is quick and easy.
  • Requires minimal equipment, herbicide and personnel.

    Application Basics:

    High-volume foliar:

  • Always read and follow the product label for specifics.
  • Thoroughly spray all leaves, stems and root collars until wet.
  • Use a nozzle that sprays coarse droplets to get the needed coverage.
  • Spray pressure should never exceed 40 psi at the tip.
  • Add a drift control agent and leave an appropriate buffer zone when applying next to sensitive crops.
  • Thoroughly wet leaves and stems when using bark-penetrating products like Garlon, Tordon or DMA 4 IVM herbicides.
  • Thoroughly wet leaves only when using products like Accord or Rodeo herbicides, which are absorbed only through the leaves.
  • Treat root collars when applying products like Garlon, Tordon or DMA 4 IVM herbicides to prevent resprouts from dormant buds in this region.

    Low-volume foliar:

  • Always read and follow the product label for specifics.
  • Spray herbicide directly onto foliage of individual plants.
  • Use spray pressures and techniques that minimize spray drift.
  • Get good coverage on the growing tips and terminal leader.
  • Spray front and back sides of the target clump to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Apply the herbicide solution at a volume that wets the crown, but minimizes runoff.

    Recommended Equipment:

  • High-volume foliar hand-held spray guns with coarse droplet nozzles.
  • Low-volume foliar Backpack sprayers with flat or adjustable spray tips, Model 30 GunJet with rollover nozzle, Philly Foam system, Thinvert system or Radiarc sprayer mounted to a truck or skidder.
